Custom Sheet Metal Electrical Enclosures for a Machine Builder

Case 2022-06-14

Customer Background A machine builder was shipping production equipment with standard off-the-shelf enclosures that never matched their layouts — cutouts for displays and cable entries had to be machined at their own site, adding 3-4 days of labor to every machine.
hey shipped.

Requirements & Challenge

  • Material: SPCC cold-rolled steel, 1.5 mm and 2.0 mm panels
  • 28 custom cutouts per cabinet (displays, switches, cable glands, vents)
  • Consistent bend accuracy for door alignment
  • Finished to IP54 protection level

Our Process

Final assembly check: Door fit, hinge alignment, and cutout positions verified before packing; protective film applied on visible panels

Result The customer removed the 3-4 day secondary machining step entirely and reduced enclosure lead time from 3 weeks to 10 days. Door alignment and cutout accuracy passed on the first machine and stayed consistent across the series. They now order enclosures for every new machine model.
